I just like "just" (sometimes)

I just feel like the flat-out ban of the word "just" is just ruling out justifiably non-undermining text...

For example, it highlights this sentence as bad:

It was great speaking with you just now! 

or this:

Attached is the file we just talked about.

Just isn't always a kind of apologetic and demeaning word (although I agree, when it is inserted right after "I" then often it is...)

But it can also be kind of an adjective that refers to a short amount of time...

For example, would the phrase Just-In-Time Compilation have the same meaning if we remove the "just"? 🤔

Unfortunately, I believe it's quite a difficult problem in natural language processing to determine in what sense the word "just" is being used. Also, it's not "Just Not Sorry" anymore if they get rid of "just." :-) I suggest closing this as addressed by issue #58, "Let users deactivate warning phrases."

Hi! I’m Tami the creator of Just Not Sorry. I entirely agree with you about how “just” has some legitimate uses. As Prof Janet explains above the effort to turn this simple and free tool into something that can do natural language processing is not something our volunteers can do right now. I’d also like to point out that our application has never been about banning words. The idea is to bring awareness to our users about whether they internationally wanted to choose a word or not. As you’ve said Just has its place, as does Sorry (when you’re expressing empathy). So do all of the other phrases... think about I believe (which works for religious thing or other not fully known items) or trying (which if you’re actively trying to resolve something is perfect). We want people to think before they press send.
