First of all, thank you for your work!

The documentation recommends using Hologram, but this isn't always possible. My question is, when is it necessary to communicate with the TCU via SMS?
In the documentation I read: Hologram offers free inbound SMS, which is critical for TCU functionality, which relies on SMS for initial configuration or diagnostics
Am I correct in understanding that SMS is only necessary for the initial configuration and all communication will be via the server? If SMS is used for something else, then what?

Hi.

SMS is sent for all commands that involves AV, charging and refresh data. SMS must be sent as trigger to open the server connection.

You can use various methods to automate, including "use phone as gateway" option which will send the sms from a mobile phone you dedicate for this purpose.
