Hi, and thank you for this code. I am exporting mesh from a human gaussian scan, and the mesh looks good, except for 'faceting' instead of a smooth surface. is this expected?

Thank you for your interest in our work!
I suppose you are using one of the train_and_extract*.py scripts. These use as mesh extraction this script gaussian_wrapping/pivot_based_mesh_extraction.py. This mesh extraction procedure embeds each gaussian with pivots and performs the triangulation from them. Given the image you sent I can give two possible paths for improvement:

1. First, it looks like you actually don't have that many Gaussians in the face of your human, this what leads to the 'faceting' you describe. Since, there are not many Gaussians, you don't have that many triangle faces either. A first improvement to try is to densify more your scene to have more particles.
2. You can also try our Primal Adaptive Meshing gaussian_wrapping/pivot_based_mesh_extraction.py script. With this script you can control the size of your mesh, just set a number high enough that matches your smoothness requirements.
