Would it be possible to add support for Stremio?

Currently, Scrob works great with Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby, but many users rely on Stremio for their daily media playback.

Proposed Solution

It would be amazing if Scrob could accept playback events from Stremio. This could likely be handled via a lightweight custom Stremio addon that sends playback data (start, pause, complete) directly to a Scrob instance URL using an API key or webhook.

Using Stremio -> Trakt -> Scrob is a workaround, but direct integration would keep the setup completely private and self-hosted.

Hi.
I've tried. But unless it changed on the last few days, stremio doesn't expose play / pause / stop events.
The only way it could remotely work was very hacky. Scrob would be a subtitle addon, and we could start progress when stremio searches for subtitles. But no other events would be recorded.

Ah, I see! That makes perfect sense regarding the player state.

Just to clarify, what if we didn't track the live player at all? Addons like AIOMetadata, Simkl, and Trakt handle this by acting as Catalog/List syncs instead of real-time scrobblers.

They provide a custom catalog row inside Stremio (like "My Scrob Watchlist" or "Scrob Recommendations"). When a user interacts with the metadata cards or uses Stremio's built-in "Mark as Watched" toggle, the addon pushes that hard state update to the server's database via API.

If Scrob ever exposes basic API endpoints to read/write to a user's watchlist/history, a community developer could build a "Scrob Catalogs" addon for Stremio to handle the rest.

No worries at all if that's outside the current scope of the project, but I wanted to share how those other addons bypass the player limitation. Thanks again for the awesome work on Scrob!

Hi! The direct Stremio integration is now implemented locally and functionally complete. It uses Stremio's account/datastore API directly, so no Stremio addon is required.

What is currently available:

• Official Stremio Link authorization using a link code and QR code; Scrob never asks for or stores the Stremio password.
• Direct library and playback synchronization through Stremio's account/datastore API, without installing or configuring an addon.
• Server-side account validation, redacted auth keys in frontend responses, session logout when the connection is deleted, and one Stremio connection per Scrob user.
• Stremio -> Scrob collection sync for movies and series.
• Stremio -> Scrob watched-state sync for movies and individual episodes.
• Stremio -> Scrob playback-progress sync for Continue Watching.
• Scrob -> Stremio collection, watched-state, and playback-progress sync.
• Cinemeta episode metadata and Stremio watched-bitfield decoding/encoding, with season/episode mapping into Scrob.
• IMDb -> TMDB resolution and caching for Scrob's internal media matching.
• Incremental pulls through datastoreMeta with a five-minute overlap window; the first pull and explicit Full resync remain exhaustive.
• Separate automatic Pull and Push schedules: 15m, 30m, 1h, 3h, 6h, 12h, 24h, or 48h.
• Manual Sync now, Push, and Full resync actions in Settings.
• Cross-provider fan-out, so eligible Scrob changes or changes imported from another provider can be forwarded to Stremio when the outbound options are enabled.
• Non-destructive outbound merging: existing Stremio fields and remote-only items are preserved, no-op writes are skipped, and remote collection removals are limited to items previously pushed by that Scrob connection.
• Multi-source-safe inbound removal handling: a Stremio removal does not remove an item from Scrob while another provider still backs it.
• Complete Settings UI for authorization, Pull/Push directions, schedules, connection testing, and progress/status display.
• README documentation covering setup, behavior, safety guarantees, Full resync, scheduling, and limitations.

Current Stremio API limitations are documented: there are still no live play/pause/stop events, exact repeated-play history cannot be reconstructed from Stremio's current watched state, and ratings/addons are not synchronized.

Validation completed locally: 63 backend tests pass, the Astro production build passes, the PostgreSQL migration was tested from a fresh database plus downgrade/re-upgrade, the real Link API code/QR/pending flow was exercised, and the Settings flow was smoke-tested in a browser.

I will open the PR after the large update/release that @ellite mentioned is coming soon. That will let me rebase onto the new implementation, resolve any scheduler/UI/migration changes cleanly, and rerun the full validation before submitting it.

Hi @ellite no, you weren't dreaming, and I didn't delete the work. I held the Stremio PR back while waiting for the large update you mentioned, then rebased it onto the latest main and resolved compatibility with the recently merged changes.

The PR is now open as #100 and ready for review. It closes this issue.
