quick search: malformed input for some queries

server returns error msg "input" needs to be an object when doing a batch call when searching "chutils" as a tag

partial fix where bookmark state is ignored if the api returns an error, the bug is caused by a tag containing a set of square brackets. have zero idea why this causes an error, the JSON doesn't parse it to an array, and cohost itself apparently submits the exact same string with no issues.
