Is there an existing issue for the feature?
Describe the Feature
A modifier row would be added in the options to select between four different note colorings: Default, Halved (makes 8ths look like 4ths, 16ths look like 8ths, etc to make it look like you're playing at double BPM), Flat (turns all notes into the 4th note color or another color), Random (randomizes note colors of every note colored element, out of the total number of note colors defined in the metrics). It would either be under "Essential Options", under the noteskin selection row, or "Appearance Options". Since it only changes the note colors and doesn't transform the note data, these modifiers will not invalidate.
The row would look something like this:
Note Coloring: Default Flat Halved Random
How Does The Feature Add To The Game?
This would eliminate the need for dedicated "halved note" noteskins, though the ones I've uploaded on the repo will still stay up for archival purposes. In Flash Flash Revolution, it was possible to make any noteskin a halved noteskin by selecting the "Halved Noteskin" checkbox in the options, so this would be like porting a feature from FFR. Flat can make any noteskin a flat noteskin, and Random note coloring I threw in just for fun. So basically, with this modifier row you can change any noteskin's way of note coloring, whether it's DivideByZero, ITG metal, etc.
If all goes well in adding this feature, maybe ITGmania and OutFox will follow suit in adding this too.
Additional Context
I don't think this has been programmed into Etterna yet, so I understand this feature will require some C++ editing. StepMania 5.2 (the now abandoned master branch of stepmania; different from the current 5.1) uses a completely different notefield that supports this feature. Also an example of a "random note color" feature in Pulsen: https://x.com/PulsenGame/status/729003649381236736
