<h2 class="major">What is EVMT?</h2>
<p>The Evergreen Valley Math Tournament, or EVMT, is a math contest for <b>local elementary and middle schools students from 5th to 8th grade</b>. Our mission is to help younger students become interested in math by providing a <b>fun, educational, and competitive experience</b>. We hope that through this contest, students will see that math is a subject that involves a lot of <b>creativity and ingenuity, not repetition and memorization</b>. Furthermore, we hope that students will be able to meet new acquaintances and find a community of their peers who also like mathematics. Everyone on the organizing team wishes that they found out about math contests earlier on, so we are very motivated to provide a better experience for younger students in the Evergreen area. </p>

<h2 class="major">Why participate?</h2>

<li><b>Unique contest format:</b> Rather than giving a test composed of unrelated questions, our tests are designed to guide students through an unfamiliar topic by providing problems of increasing levels of difficulty. We also give easy explanations at the start of each test to teach students the concepts needed. In this way, students will not only have a chance to compete, but they will learn something new in the process.</li>

<li><b>Countdown round:</b> In addition, we will be featuring a countdown round, where students can go head to head to see who can solve problems the fastest. This specifically helps students meet new people who go to different schools, and also prepares them for the MathCounts® competition.</li>
