Over the years, we've fixed a bunch of errors similar to #399, were homomorphism methods get inputs outside of the recognized group, are not prepared for it, and fail.
Today, AI pointed out to me that there is validatehomominput (and ValidateHomomInput) for dealing with this, which I never was aware of... sigh.
Assuming this works, we should consider looking at the commit history to revise some of the homomorphism fixes, to instead use the validatehomominput mechanism.
