`startRemoteOwnApp` is not starting the app.

PhoneDataLayerAppHelper.startRemoteOwnApp is not resulting in the app starting.

• Calling sendMessage directly (we do that to launch a service) works, but it doesn't cause the app to go to foreground.
• Calling startRemoteOwnApp reports SUCCESS error code, no error logs are printed.
• The call finishes, but the app doesn't become foreground (no UI appears)

Did you correctly handle the restrictions on launching activities from the background?

I'm not sure what you mean by multiple (I only tested/have one), bit i think the culprit is the service crashing because of r8

Don't use datastore 1.1.6 or 1.1.5 they are both broken one no more have the proper R8 rules, the other wrong packaging.

Yeah Horologist is depending on broken data store version... It's crashing the app on startup which is why it isn't opening (causing this ticket). Not having any crashlytics for wear os apps doesn't help either. @yschimke please make a hotfix release, @Tolriq is absolutely right, anyone who uses horologist-datalayer will have their app crash on release builds.
