Description

Loading the above demo on Safari Version 26.4 (21624.1.16.11.4) or Safari Tech Preview Release 239 (WebKit 21625.1.8.19.1) throws:

no available backend found. ERR: [webgpu] TypeError: Ue().webgpuInit is not a function. (In 'Ue().webgpuInit(s=>{t.webgpu.device=s})', 'Ue().webgpuInit' is undefined)

Reproduction

1. Go to https://huggingface.co/spaces/webml-community/granite-4.0-1b-speech-webgpu.
2. Click the Load Model button.

Thanks for the report. We're getting similar reports from other users, and will see if we can implement a fix. cc @fs-eire @guschmue too, as this error originates from ORT.

@tomayac can you confirm that the samples at https://webgpu.github.io/webgpu-samples/ work for you? Even on safari tech preview 239, it's not working for me.

On Safari 26.4 (21624.1.16.11.4) on macOS Tahoe 26.4 (25E241), all WebGPU demos except for Primitive Picking worked for me. Primitive Picking failed with Error: This sample requires the 'primitive-index' feature, which is not supported by this system., but this doesn't look like it's related to the Transformers.js issue.
