As stated on the Matlab website
The dataset data type might be removed in a future release. To work with heterogeneous data, use the MATLAB® table data type instead. See MATLAB table documentation for more information.
We should be aware of the potential problem of dataset and table in the future release.
For example, in Matlab 2013b the LinearMixedModel class only accept dataset input.
