The Linode-cli is written in Python. The Python installation makes up the bulk of the image size (~50MB of the ~70MB) and it's only needed to send a single command to Linode. That command can likely be sent using other means - perhaps even just using bare shell commands, probably using WGET. Doing so would allow this image to radically shrink in size.
