As pinhead does "duplicate" (most of?) the maki/temaki icons, so we could either a) drop maki and temaki in favour of pinhead, or b) keep maki/temaki as valid icon sources, and avoid using pinhead for the icons that are also available through the respective "origin" source. At first glance, b) might seem better as it would allow to use newly released icons from e.g. temaki without having to wait until they are synced /copied over to pinhead.

Yeah I'm kind of surprised that @quincylvania did this. He's been a maintainer of Temaki for as long as I can remember.

My thinking is that now that Pinhead is a thing, it probably just makes sense to wind down Temaki, as I don't want the same icons sourced from multiple places, and if the icons are being improved in a separate project it's not like I'm going to bring those improvements back to Temaki. 😕 And Pinhead does actually look like really nice work.

For more context, Rapid needs to bundle the icons into spritesheets and they are lazily packed into an atlas texture that gets uploaded to the GPU - so there are real technical reasons why I don't want to ship around duplicate copies of the same icons from multiple sources. It's better to have them all in one place.

I would note than in a few case Pinhead and Temaki have different designs for the same thing. This might not matter for iD but probably the two libraries will continue to drift apart. Some examples (Pinhead at left):
