Errors comparing forms and views

The new view comparison was exactly what I needed today - unfortunately I get an error even when the source and target are the same instance:

Hi Simon,
what Dynamics version are you testing against (8.1, 8.2, 9.0 ?) and is it OnPremise ore Online?

v8.2 Online. If I use v9.1 I don't get the errors selecting either views or forms but I've only got access to one instance that is v9.1 at the moment so can't test properly.

I have noticed however with v9.1 (same instance used for source and target) that entity and attribute metadata is loaded whatever I select under settings and differences are sometimes flagged when values should be identical (the source and target are the same instance).
