I've already attempted to do this (see https://github.com/ispg-group/fms90-redux/pull/74) but had to revert (https://github.com/ispg-group/fms90-redux/pull/147) due to some subtle behaviour differences in certain edge conditions. We should still do it but need to write more tests to validate.
