Hey @Abaso007, thanks for raising this — idle timeout disconnections during debugging is a real pain point!

To help us scope and fix this properly, could you flesh out the issue following our CONTRIBUTING.md guidelines? Specifically:

What we need

1. Steps to reproduce — what MCP client are you using (Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode, etc.)? What does your config look like?
2. Expected vs actual behavior — e.g. "server should stay alive during active sessions" vs "server exits after 2 minutes even when client is connected"
3. A failing test case — per our repo rules, every issue needs a test in src/tests.zig that fails on current main. For this one, something like:

test "issue-148: idle timeout should not fire during active MCP session" {
    // Test that the idle watchdog respects active connections
    // ...
}

4. Environment — OS, codedb version (codedb --version), MCP client + version

Quick context

The idle timeout was recently reduced from 30 minutes to 2 minutes in PR #133 to address orphaned process accumulation (#131). The timeout lives at src/mcp.zig:292:

pub const idle_timeout_ms: i64 = 2 * 60 * 1000; // 2 minutes

It resets on every MCP message (last_activity is updated on each JSON-RPC call). So if your client is actively sending requests, it shouldn't timeout. If it is, that's a bug we want to fix.

Tip: If you're using an AI coding agent, you can point it at the repo and ask it to help write the failing test case and a detailed reproduction — that speeds things up a lot on our end!

Hi there, this 2 minute timeout thing is causing an issue for me as well, can we please increase the time limit? And when the time limit exceeded 2 minutes the process doesn't even stop, just the message causing my opencode to say the MCP server is still up.

Fixed in v0.2.54 — idle timeout increased from 2 minutes to 10 minutes. Also added POLLHUP detection for immediate exit when the client disconnects, plus 1-second sleep granularity for sub-second shutdown response.
