a list of dependencies would be helpful.
which zbar "" is it when it says zbar not found?
libzbar?
zbar-tools?
zbarcam-gtk4?
zbarcam-qt?
python3-zbar?
well, I've tried all those, and it still fails to build.

I'm not sure about Mobian, but it's just the zbar package on Arch. Dependencies are exactly the same as upstream, so you may be able to use apt build-dep megapixels to install them.

it's zbar-dev, however, I'm having a different issue, I have xrandr installed, there's no dev equivalent, but it claims it can't find this dependency.

I have also a dependency problem:

meson.build:5:0: ERROR: Dependency "libfeedback-0.0" not found, tried pkgconfig and cmake

when trying apt install libfeedback-0.0-0 it says it is already installed...

I did get this version of Megapixels to build on latest version of Mobian:

sudo apt-get install meson
sudo apt-get install ninja-build
sudo apt-get install libgtk-4-dev
sudo apt-get install cmake
sudo apt-get install libfeedback-dev
sudo apt-get install libzbar-dev
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/
meson build
cd build
ninja
sudo ninja install
sudo cp data/org.postmarketos.Megapixels.gschema.xml /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/
sudo glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/

Not sure why the PKG_CONFIG_PATH is needed? But meson would not find libfeedback without it. I do think it is better than the default gnome camera app that ships with Mobian.
