Problem

At present, it is not possible to effectively narrow down the results of a full-text or metadata-search using the ‘Year of Publication’ facet, as only the years with the most hits are displayed, sorted by number of hits. One can not narrow the search to a publication year that is not displayed in the facet due to lack of hits. SUB Hamburg has found a solution for "Hamburger Kulturgut Digital" using multi-level faceting: "Publication year: Century", "Publication year: Decade", "Publication year: Year". The multi-level structure would allow any desired year to be targeted specifically, without the total number of years displayed in the facet becoming too large.
