Luau is essentially a gradually typed lua.

YEP! also in raylib, Zen-C, and LWJGL too. Also still in the Enigma Discord.

Luau uses a different method from source -> vm. it actually generates an AST which is not standard for lua. That is why Luau can do things like compound operators (+=, -=, and so on).

There are also other nuances to luau vs lua. Luau is stricter for VM security due to the nature of its use case in roblox.

It would be cool to see a luau implementation in Rust.
