Last thread on top moves quick replies to the right

See screenshot below, I'm wondering if it's just a matter of being in the wrong container as the quick replies are shown at the top typically so it might be moving it into that same container.

They are supposed to be directly to the right of the reply/forward buttons (to save space). I'll check on it.

I noticed your reply/forward buttons are square... are you using another extension to modify Gmail alongside Simplify?

Ah good catch, I've been using it so long I don't think I ever saw the gmail layout that has the reply/forward at the bottom on a bar that stays visible throughout. I just turned off the extension I thought was responsible for the different button style and location and confirmed it was this one:

No worries then looks like it's a clash of the two extensions, it's still usable and I don't hate the layout. Also seems to be for some emails and not others, specifically if there is a attachment (screenshot below) or not.

The only features left for me to leave this other extension turned on (after your Feb update - thanks!) are the following two:
