Creating a simple HTML file with only the lines:

<script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/lepture/github-cards@latest/jsdelivr/widget.js"></script>

(As given by the README), yields:

Couldn't find the requested file 
/cards/default.html in lepture/github-cards.

Even when tested in a browser with no extensions, default settings (Safari)
