For HDF5 2.0 and newer, I think this needs to be:

HDF5_PROVIDES_ZLIB_SUPPORT

Although, in your case on macOS, you wouldn't be hitting the second half of the OR statement because you were NOT on WIN32. So, I am thinking it needs to be...

if(SILO_ENABLE_HZIP or HDF5_PROVIDES_ZLIB_SUPPORT)

OTOH, I think we still want Silo to build against older versions of HDF5...I think...maybe. I could be convinced that is not worth the trouble.
