Course index when activities and resources not shown

I am using Moodle 4.3. I really like the option to remove activities and resources from the course index, but when this is done, bottom level subsections still have an arrow to open/close the subsection despite there being nothing to see. Is it possible for these redundant arrows to be removed?

this plugin uses the core component for the course index. As far as I can see in the format_topics, it has the same behavior for the empty sections.

In fact, I think this issue was already reported as https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-82572

Thanks Marina. Yes, the issue in the tracker is the same behaviour but it is a slightly different situation as it mentions only empty sections, rather than the situation where the section / subsection does contain activities but the setting is used to show only sections and subsections. Can you confirm whether the fix for that issue will also fix this situation? Also, can you confirm whether the plan to include subsections in core formats in the future will include the setting to show only sections and subsections?

From the point of view of the core component, it does not matter if a section does not have any activities or does not have any visible activities. So I assume that the fix for the core issue will fix the behaviour for format_flexsections with the setting to hide activities. But I can't guarantee it because there is no fix in core yet.

Also, can you confirm whether the plan to include subsections in core formats in the future will include the setting to show only sections and subsections?

I do not work on this project in Moodle core so I'm not sure about the plans there.
