Feature Request: Option to Disable Power Adapter When Charging Is Off

Hi, thanks for this great project!

I'm wondering if it's possible to add an option to automatically disable the power adapter when charging is turned off.

For example, if the charging thresholds are set as:

• Turn charging off above: 80%

• Turn charging on below: 20%

Could we have an option to:

• Disable the power adapter when the battery reaches 80%, and

• Re-enable it when the battery drops to 20%?

I don’t have experience with macOS programming, so I’d really appreciate any guidance or contributions from the community.

I’m repeatedly asked for this feature, but nobody ever gives me a rationale for it. I once had a request from someone with a development benchmark workload, so I cooked up something custom for that. For regular use, all this does is wear your battery. What is your use-case?

Thank you for your prompt reply. I am trying to simulate the battery calibration process, which is a paid feature of another famous battery management tool.

Right, but then this would be temporary behaviour. The thing is, I’m not convinced it really works that well.

First, regarding your request, you absolutely must go to 100 % and sit there for a prolonged period. Second, as with alternative tools, Battery Toolkit would need to re-enable charging in the low percent range - but just like with 100 %, calibration would be most effective at the extremes.

I’ve thought about adding a calibration mode that just lets the battery run out, because the Mac shutting down would re-enable charging due to the SMC state reset. This way, it could in fact go between 0 and 100 % automatically. But I’ve never tested whether this works reliably.
