Summary
I would like to request official support for the Hungarian language in VS Code, or at minimum, the ability to contribute to improving the existing Hungarian translations that appear in some extensions.
Current Situation
While browsing through VS Code extensions, I've noticed that some extensions contain Hungarian translations. However, these translations are often of poor quality - containing awkward phrasings, inconsistent terminology, and sometimes serious errors that confuse Hungarian-speaking developers when using the user interface.
Currently, Hungarian is not listed among the [14 officially supported languages](https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-loc#visual-studio-code-language-packs) in the vscode-loc repository.
The Problem
- Inconsistent translations: Different extensions use different Hungarian terms for the same concepts
- Poor quality: Many translations appear to be machine-generated without native speaker review
- Growing Hungarian developer community: There's a significant and growing Hungarian developer community that would benefit from quality localization
What I'm Requesting
Official Hungarian Language Support (Preferred)
- Add Hungarian (hu) to the list of officially supported languages
- Provide access to the Microsoft Localization Platform for community translators
- Allow native Hungarian speakers to contribute to and review translations
Why This Matters
- Developer experience: Hungarian developers deserve the same quality localization as other languages
- Community engagement: I (and likely others) am willing to volunteer time to improve translations
- Ecosystem growth: Quality localization helps VS Code adoption in the Hungarian developer community
- Maintenance: Poor unofficial translations create confusion and hurt the VS Code brand
What I Can Offer
- Native Hungarian speaker with technical background and translation experience
- Active translator for the Hypixel project: I have proven experience in maintaining quality Hungarian translations for a large, international project
- Willing to volunteer my time to work on VS Code Hungarian translations
- Can help coordinate with other Hungarian developers for review and consistency
- Can commit to long-term maintenance and ensure consistent quality if given access
- Experienced in handling community feedback and maintaining translation consistency
Thank you for considering this request. I believe quality Hungarian localization would significantly benefit the VS Code ecosystem.
Environment:
- VS Code Version: [current version]
- OS: Windows/macOS/Linux
- Extensions with poor Hungarian translations: [list examples if you have specific ones]
