Summary
When using VS Code in Remote - WSL, MCP servers running in the remote extension host are available in Copilot Chat inside the WSL window, but are not available in the detached "Agents" window opened via "Open in Agents".
Repro steps
- Open a repo in Remote - WSL (
Running in <distro> (WSL 2)).
- Start MCP server
databricks-msp-server from MCP: List Servers (shows Running; tools discovered).
- Verify Copilot Chat in the WSL window can use the MCP server.
- Click Open in Agents to open detached Agents window.
- In the detached Agents session, MCP server tools are not available.
Expected
Detached Agents window should have access to MCP servers from the active Remote extension host (WSL), same as Copilot Chat in the WSL window.
Actual
Detached Agents window only shows local/built-in tools; remote MCP server tools are missing.
Workaround
Use Copilot Chat directly in the WSL window (works there).
