I’m reporting this as the maintainer of a regional MeshCore wardrivers map that sources uploaded samples from Meshcore Wardrive Android.
It would be useful to let users optionally define a wardriver identifier in the app settings. When set, the app could include that identifier with uploaded wardrive samples. This would allow downstream map servers to support opt-in gamification features such as contributor rankings, badges, regional challenges, per-driver stats, and attribution.
Privacy is important here, so this should be entirely user-controlled:
- The field should be blank by default.
- The app should not generate or infer an identifier from the device, account, Bluetooth name, or radio identity.
- If the field is empty, uploads should behave exactly as they do today.
- If the field is set, the value should be sent with uploaded samples, for example as an opaque wardriver_id.
- The user should be able to edit or clear it at any time.
- The UI should make clear that this identifier may be visible on public/community maps if the receiving server chooses to display it.
This would preserve anonymous contribution by default while enabling community maps to build optional gamification and contributor-recognition features for users who explicitly choose to participate.
Thank you!
