Hi,

I understand that reviews take time, and I'm not asking for my project to be prioritized over anyone else's.

What I'm struggling to understand is what is taking so long.

From my perspective, this has been the timeline:

  • 20 June: I submitted my project for review.
  • Over the following month: My project has remained in the review queue with no explanation for the delay.
  • During this time: The project analytics have continued to record page views. I deliberately avoid accessing the project in ways that would count toward those analytics, so those views are not coming from me.
  • Today: I'm still waiting, and I still don't know why.

The wait itself isn't the biggest issue. The lack of communication is.

The longer this continues without an explanation, the more it feels like the time and effort I've invested into creating this project aren't valued. I've spent many hours developing it, testing it, and preparing it for release because I wanted to contribute something useful to the Modrinth community. Without any indication of what's happening, it's difficult not to feel like that effort has been overlooked.

If there's a problem with my submission, I'd genuinely appreciate knowing what it is so I can fix it. If it's waiting in a queue, I'd like to understand why the queue has taken this long. If the review team is overloaded, I'd appreciate hearing that too. Even if the answer isn't what I want to hear, an honest explanation is far better than silence.

I'm not looking for special treatment. I'm looking for transparency, communication, and an understanding of why my project has been waiting for over a month without any meaningful update.

Describe the solution you'd like

I believe a few changes would make the review process much more transparent for creators without changing how reviews are performed.

  • A live review checklist showing which review stages have been completed and which are still pending.
  • A rough queue position or estimated review timeframe, even if it's only an estimate.
  • A status indicator (for example: "Waiting in queue", "Under review", "Waiting for reviewer", or "Action required").
  • A brief status update when a project has been waiting for an extended period, even if it's only to say that the review team is experiencing a backlog.
  • If a review is delayed beyond a certain amount of time, an automatic explanation of the reason for the delay where possible.

The goal isn't to speed up reviews artificially. The goal is to reduce uncertainty by giving creators better visibility into the process.

Describe alternatives you've considered

The main alternative is the current process of contacting support or asking in community channels. In my experience, this often results in being referred back to existing documentation, which doesn't explain why a specific project has been waiting or what stage of the review process it is in.

While I understand that moderators may not be able to provide individual progress updates for every project, providing this information automatically through the review system would reduce uncertainty for creators and likely reduce the number of support requests.

Additional context

This request is based on my own experience waiting for a project review since 20 June.

I don't believe my project should receive priority over others. My goal is to improve transparency for everyone who submits projects to Modrinth. Better visibility into the review process would improve the creator experience, reduce unnecessary support requests, and help contributors feel that their work is progressing through the system rather than disappearing into an unknown queue.
