Cannot update mode or colour on LED strip lights (off and on are working)

Device: GIDEALED 32.8ft Smart WiFi Addressable RGB DreamColor LED Strip Lights
Connecting locally using discover_bulbs()
light.on and light.off working fine
right.rgb and light.mode not working at all
have tried branch 42 as a potential fix, but that is also not working
