This was fixed in #17. If we want to use the changes in 2.3.x we'd have to backport it.

@andyfaff I was hoping for the 2.3.x cycle to finish before we needed to make that change. We may (or may not) do a 2.3.5 release, 2.4.x should branch in mid November.
