Anyone can participate in our group and contribute to our projects, below we recognize the individuals that help move us forward.
Jon Schipp — Founder, Chair
Jon is a Security Engineer at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, Director of Security at Draconyx, as well as the chair for OpenNSM at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the author of ISLET and other tools as well as a contributor to many Free and Open Source Projects including The Netsniff-NG Toolkit, SecurityOnion, and the Bro Project. With a few publications and many talks he has been fortunate enough to have audiences at various conferences including DerbyCon, AIDE, Hack3rCon, BroCon, XSEDE, MOSSCon, and more.
Steve Gatses — Chair
Steve Gatses graduated with a Bachelors degree in Management Information Systems from Eastern Illinois University. Currently work as an IT Security Engineer at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He's a proud father of a Siberian Husky named Leo. In his spare time he enjoys snowboarding, practicing brazilian jiu-jitsu and playing golf.
Shane Rogers — Student Chair
Shane Rogers is a founding member and the current ACM student chair of OpenNSM. He graduated with a B.S. in computer science. from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, where he is currently pursuing his Master's in computer science. He works as a software engineer doing cybersecurity research for Boeing Defense, Space and Security. In his free time he enjoys video games, cooking and breaking things.
