How to set the TERM env variable?

We use a lot of TTY screens and I believe some don't compile in the vs-code env due to the TERM being different across envs.

Here is my logfile of TERM not being set:

When I check in my terminal I see it has been set:

How do I make sure this env variable is set?

And would this effect the size of screen a browse is compiled against like I think it does?

Found the solution to my problem not related to TERM.

Was able to set -batchwidth in "extraParameters" like so:
"extraParameters": "-batchwidth 100",
