Results of RIVeR Validation During the WMO HydroHub Workshop in Costa Rica (May 22–23, 2025)
📍 Location: Río Grande de Orosí, Station #9-19
📆 Event: WMO HydroHub Field Workshop on Innovative Hydrometry (May 22–23, 2025)
📷 Setup: Oblique video acquisition and visual flow estimation using RIVeR
📊 Results
During the workshop, participants used RIVeR to estimate river discharge from an oblique video.
The result was compared to a reference discharge of 25.8 m³/s, measured using an ADCP (SonTek RiverRay) over six transects. These measurements were taken during slightly rising water levels, and a partially unmeasurable area on the right bank introduced additional uncertainty.
A ±12.5% uncertainty margin was estimated for the ADCP reference using QRev, reflecting both hydrodynamic changes and data limitations.
➡️ The discharge estimated with RIVeR fell within this uncertainty range, demonstrating good agreement with the ADCP result under real-world field conditions.

We’re grateful to the WMO HydroHub team, local partner in Costa Rica (ICE), and all participants who made this validation possible.
