u/d includes animations

Page Up and Page down instantly jumps the page, but u/d "animates" up/down

It might be a personal taste, but I quite dislike animations. I love it when the computer is snappy and I'm just taken directly where I want to be, rather than sit through a computer's attempt to entertain me with an animation. Fortunately for me, it seems to me software development has going in the same direction over the last years.

Is this animation in Vimium by choice?

There is a way to make it snappy.
Step 1: Click on Vimium extension icon
Step 2: Click on the "options page" link

Step 3: Scroll down to Advanced Options
Step 4: Uncheck the "use smooth scrolling" box

I am quite interested in UX. So I'm a bit curious, as to why smooth scrolling (or animation) is the default here.
