All objects, whether newly created or from an existing patch, render as two rows tall. Expanding them two clicks, then sliding them back one click fixes it. Selecting text in long objects (such as messages) shows that the highlight is offset from the actual character bounds.
(I'm trying to figure out why, but somehow this makes visual sense to me. It makes them seem more like distinct objects, rather than words floating in space. Of course, this causes problems with Vanilla patches, which at the very least we need to draw on. But still, it makes some visual sense to me.)
