Some books on the workbench don't return characters if selected in the "edit grouping" window. Looking in the browser inspector console, this produces one or more 500 status code errors via the Axios request for resources from the server.
However, viewing characters from the same books via the 'Browse Books' view on the workbench yields characters and no similar error.
