Proper error messaging #4

Proper error messaging is needed: maybe via an exception class that provides an unique, non-repeated error code, so the caller can check for it and match it to error messages in the language required, or via a lot of specific exception classes, but certainly not the way as it is done now in a quick-and-dirty.
