When the sleep timer stops playback and the app is closed, the current playback position is sometimes reset to the beginning locally within the app, while the previous position still appears to exist on the server.
The issue becomes visible immediately, as the affected audiobook disappears from the “Continue Listening” list.
Once the “Resume playback” button is pressed, playback jumps to 0:00, and this reset position is then synchronized with the server, permanently overwriting the correct progress.
Workaround
The issue can only be prevented while the player module of the affected audiobook is still open. In that state, playback must be resumed briefly and then paused again before closing the app and before starting any other playback.
Once the currently open player is closed, or another audiobook is started, this workaround is no longer possible.
