Unable to use vikunja syntax mode instead of todoist mode

Whenever Vikunja is selected in syntax mode under quick entry tab, Vikunja syntax doesnt work. Always defaults back to Todoist syntax on reopening settings (no persistence). I checked the config.json file and there is no entry for syntax mode either. Here are the contents of the config.json file for refrence
