So with AI writing all the code nowadays, and claims of enterprises like claude that "coding is solved", and because of likewise incidents, at every step of learning to code, this thought comes to mind: "why?".

From time to time, I tell myself that this is nothing new, it is same as it was when:

• mathematicians faced calculators / computers
• machine code programmers faced assemblers
• assembly writing programmers faced compilers
• ....

But what seems diff. this time is the reasoning part. And for me and couple of folks I have talked to, it is the reasoning part that makes us question ourselves at every stage in learning to or writing programs.

I ask of you developers and folks out there that know better what is happening rather than us; thinking of whom is affected by how AI is marketed, to guide us and make aware us of what actually is happening...

Thanks for sharing these thoughts! This is such a relevant topic right now that I’m actually going to add a dedicated section about AI to the roadmap.

You’re right that the landscape is shifting, but it is an evolution of our role rather than an end to it. Here is how I see the current reality:

From Syntax to System Design: In the past, you had to spend a lot of time thinking about the granular details of the language. Now, the focus is moving heavily toward high-level design, architecture, and code review.

Knowledge Drives the Tool: The more deeply you understand programming, the more specific and effective your requests to an AI will be. AI is a tool, and its output is only as good as the context you provide.

The Illusion of Reasoning: AI doesn't replace developers because it still lacks true independent capability. It is incredibly good at pretending to do a flawless job, but it frequently hallucinates or generates subtly flawed logic.

We still need capable developers to steer the ship, design the architecture, and verify the output. Good engineers aren't going anywhere!
