i am worried about monopolist actions from certain big players in the dating space
but i am more worried about legal risk

i think the code quality is quite high,
but UX needs a lot of work
basically, it's not WORTH stealing haha

what we need to be "afraid" of is the vast user pool and network effects of the existing players

speaking of which, if you want to hard fork and run a biz on top of the existing code, feel free
a fair word of warning this is a hard buisiness
i was in talks with a 50-user dating app to acquire their url and users for $5000. i thought it was a good deal, but then i saw how many users there were
i was in other talks with a more uh "wholesome" UX language designed dating app. but i think the founder doesn't trust me.

if you are interested in this space, feel free to send me your resume and i can ask around if the other ppl working on dating need a technical co-founder (who is not me cus im overbooked time wise)

my thinking is that um
yeah maybe a non-profit like free-as-in-beer and free-as-in-code dating site could draw a lot of people
but like we want to go after the artsy type, the designers, the fashionable.
we already have a lot of members in the "techy" avatar, and that skews mostly male and transfem.
we could focus more on that specific audience. uhm i personally might benefit from that ... anyways

the main reason that we don't have payments
is that it's against the Stripe TOS T~T

it's not like i don't watn money
i want to pay for cloud bills and hosting out of revenue

it's just

• dating-site friendly payment provider (cryptocurrency?)
  • while NOT being flooded with low-quality solicitation from illegal-in-california activities
  • i am open to sex work in Nevada where it is legal. our SF users might be amenable for a day trip
    • however, then we'd be managing a two-sided marketplace rather than a fun social app, and uh, would be more work. compliance, safety of the women, etc. right now we operate on "you are responsible for your own safety". it's like a bar.
