I keep getting the error 403 Forbidden nginx/1.17.10
I cant find a way to fix this issue

Couldn't been more vague. Which index.html file? from vanilla-media? Tried that and the page was sort of broken and unfinished. I did everything and docker is running but I'm keep getting 404/403 forbidden.

Please bare with me as it's been a while since I used this software, but I'm 90% sure I'm correct. That web directory is like a blank website. You're getting that 404 since you're accessing the main website not the CPPS itself. In terms of the original Club Penguin this is basically the front website clubpenguin.com but the actual Club Penguin client was at play.clubpenguin.com.

Basically in that web directory you can build a website that has a link to the CPPS client, or just access the CPPS client directly which is usually the subdomain "play"

I tried using various subdomains including play but the same thing pretty much happened. I don't know why it's not working since I tried countless things but nothing really helped and I'm sitting way longer on this whole thing than planned, while everyone else just runs docker and it works. I'm basically running it on my linux laptop via ssh, trying to access it from another device through its IPv4.

Yeah but that only loads the content of the index.html file, not the game itself.

You can try entering the hostname of your linux computer, for example, "hostname.local". for me it works for the main page, but if I enter "play.hostname.local" it doesn't work. Maybe it is just easier to setup yukon + yukon-server, I did it that way and got a working cpps server with login, users, etc.

Unfortunately that didn't help either, thanks tho. I just installed it with wsl instead and now it works. I guess wand doesn't like IPv4 addresses and works best with localhost.

heya, so to access the game via ip instead of a domain you need to change the links within your env to paths instead of subdomains (ie play.clubpenguin.com -> clubpenguin.com/play)
however this also requires fixing a number of other things as a lot of paths rely on being run on the root domain
easiest method to do this is buy an extremely cheap domain and run it through cloudflare

yeah I also tried modifying the .env file to change play.localhost to localhost/play but that didn't work. As you said, it probably requires changing that in a lot of places :/

Yeah that would definitely be a lot easier and less of a headache. Next I gotta figure out how to swap the flash player with ruffle but I think that's also gonna be a challenge. Didn't think making your own club penguin client was this convoluted lol
