Building Tools for the Communities I Love
About Me
Hi, I'm Andrew, also known as "judda". I've spent most of my adult life building things for online communities, and I've been a professional developer for 15+ years.
My time goes into three areas: recipe and home tooling, the Virtual Pet/Browser Based Games space, and community building. They look different on the surface, but share the same thread: tools and spaces that make life better for communities the big players overlook.
Recipes & Home Tooling
Most of my newer energy goes here. Recipe apps especially are a space full of walled gardens, SEO farms, and subscription traps. There should be better options.
FlourPower
[flourpower.app](https://flourpower.app). A digital recipe book for collecting and organizing your own recipes. Not a blog, not a content platform, just your recipes the way you'd want them. Free, with optional subscriptions.
MoveMyRecipes
[movemyrecipes.com](https://movemyrecipes.com). A free tool that extracts recipes from proprietary formats into standards-compliant ones. The escape hatch if you've ever felt locked into a recipe app.
MarkMyPages
[markmypages.com](https://markmypages.com). Annotate documents. Navigate back instantly. Upload PDFs and EPUBs, highlight passages, add notes, and click back to the exact spot any time.
Virtual Pet / Browser Based Games
The fun started in high school with Neopets. I've been hooked since.
I started building Virtual Pet games in University, co-owning Cyopets, freelancing on Misticpets, and others. I'm also the primary developer for IcePets.com.
Now I help run [TheGamingList.com](https://thegaminglist.com) with other fans, which has grown to cover Pet Sims and beyond. It's where I noticed a wasteful trend: people spend hundreds building a site, then abandon it because a new dev says "the code is garbage, start over," or the original dev disappears mid-build. Owners are left with login pages and not much else.
That's the problem most of the work below tries to solve.
The Gaming List (TGL)
The forums and community hub I help run, the source of much of my perspective on the genre.
OnlineGaming.Directory
A leaderboard and ranking board for sites in the space. A "who's who" snapshot so players can find active sites and owners get visibility for what they actually do.
GameSiteArt
Still in its infancy. An archive of art from pet sites that have gone offline, plus a record of how the genre's art has evolved.
Gaming Engine
The project that started this page. A modular Laravel-based framework for browser games, so site owners can pick what they need without inheriting a monolith. My answer to the "abandoned half-built site" problem. Slower progress now, but alive and built with full test coverage from day one.
Community
Coffee & Code
A casual meetup at a local library where developers, designers, and the curious-but-not-yet-technical show up to work on their own stuff, swap ideas, and help each other unstick. No agenda, no pitches, just coffee and code. Sponsorship doesn't fund this directly, but supporting my work means I can keep showing up to run it.
Why Sponsor Me?
Most of what I build is free, or free with optional paid features. That's deliberate, these communities are full of hobbyists, students, and passion projects on tight budgets. Price shouldn't lock them out of good tools.
But open source doesn't pay bills. People say "I'd pay for something like this" and never do, and the developer who put in the hours is the one who quietly burns out.
Sponsoring me means:
- More projects shipped, more existing ones maintained
- More confidence to keep things free for people who can't pay
- A vote that says the work matters
Thank you for reading, and if you sponsor, thank you twice.
