Opus 4.8 is now the default model and dynamic workflows are live — Claude can now orchestrate tens-to-hundreds of agents in the background. Your hardest tasks can finally run while you sleep.

Fast mode on Opus 4.8 is 2x standard rate for 2.5x speed (down from much higher cost).

Key changes

• /effort xhigh — Opus 4.8 with maximum effort, now the default model
• Dynamic workflows — /workflows to view background runs
• Lean system prompt is now default for modern models
• Claude reserves multiple-choice questions for decisions it genuinely can't make
• /simplify is now cleanup-only (no more accidental bug hunting)
• claude agents: ! <command> runs shell commands as background sessions
• Plugins can declare defaultEnabled: false
• CLAUDE_CODE_OPUS_4_6_FAST_MODE_OVERRIDE deprecated → remove before 06/01
