Key Fixes Applied During Session

1. WireGuard Connector (Most Complex)

Issues: 4 distinct problems

  • Missing Ktor HTTP client dependencies
  • Kotlin reserved keyword interface used as variable name
  • MainActivity had complex theme integration
  • Sync manager naming issues

Fixes:

  • Added 5 Ktor dependencies + kotlinx-serialization plugin
  • Renamed all interface → wgInterface (5 locations)
  • Simplified MainActivity to use MaterialTheme directly
  • Fixed RssSyncManager → RSSSyncManager
  • Fixed .startSync() → .start()

2. Syncthing Connector

Issues: 3 distinct problems

  • API methods missing apiKey parameter
  • Method name mismatches (setConfig vs updateConfig, etc.)
  • Flow type inference failure

Fixes:

  • Added apiKey to all API service calls
  • Fixed method names: setConfig→updateConfig, getDatabaseStatus→getDBStatus, browseDirectory→browse
  • Fixed parameter order in getCompletion()
  • Added executeUnitRequest() helper for Unit returns
  • Added explicit flow<SyncthingEvent> type parameter

3. PaperlessNG Connector

Issues: 2 distinct problems

  • Unused PDF viewer file referencing missing library
  • Variable name shadowing in logging calls

Fixes:

  • Deleted PdfViewerManager.kt
  • Changed Log.e(tag, ...) → Log.e(this@PaperlessApiClient.tag, ...) (2 locations)

Files Modified: 1 file (1 deleted)

4. Matrix Connector

Issues: Sync manager naming

  • Wrong class name and method name

Fixes:

  • Changed RssSyncManager → RSSSyncManager
  • Changed all .startSync() → .start() (8 calls)

Technical Insights

Common Patterns Identified

  1. RSS Sync Manager Naming Convention

    • Class: RSSSyncManager (all caps for acronym)
    • Method: .start() not .startSync()
    • Affected: Matrix, WireGuard

  2. Kotlin Reserved Keywords

    • interface cannot be used as variable/parameter name
    • Always use descriptive alternatives (e.g., wgInterface)
    • Affects data classes, function parameters, local variables

  3. Variable Name Shadowing

    • Function parameters can shadow class properties
    • Use this@ClassName.propertyName for disambiguation
    • Common in logging scenarios: Log.e(tag, ...) when tag is both parameter and property

  4. API Client Pattern Consistency

    • Always verify method signatures match API service interface
    • Parameters must be in correct order
    • Type inference requires explicit types for empty flow bodies

  5. Gradle Build Cache Issues

    • Stale Gradle daemon can cache old build errors
    • ./gradlew --stop clears daemon and cache
    • Always verify with fresh daemon for accurate results

Build Performance

  • Compilation Time: ~24 seconds for all 9 modules (fresh daemon)
  • Total Files Compiled: 377 tasks executed
  • Cache Efficiency: High (213 tasks up-to-date on subsequent builds)
