Workflow is setting BT headphones as input source

Hey there! I just recently started using this workflow and while it's very useful, I recently realised that when I toggle the connection to my bluetooth headphones with the "btd" keyword, it sets them both as input and output.

Using a BT headset as a mic while you're listening to anything greatly diminishes the sound quality. I have no need for using my BT headset's mic; and if I did I'd toggle it manually.

My question is, is there a way to modify the workflow's scripts so that the bluetooth device that's toggled is toggled only as an output source and not as an input source? Thank you!

Hi! I'm glad you find the workflow useful!

The problem per now is that the workflow doesn't really handle input/output at all. It just handles bluetooth connections - and then the device whatever it likes with the connection. For audio devices, this usually means setting both output/input to the newly connected device.

Implementing control of input/output requires a non-trivial amount of development, and is a bit outside the current scope of the workflow. I won't rule it out as a future feature, but it's not a priority.

That being said, if you, or someone else, feel like adding this functionality and sending a pull request, I'm all yours!

That's fair enough. I tried my hand at modifying the scripts but couldn't figure out how to do this quickly.

I worked around it by creating a new aggregate audio device inside Audio MIDI Setup and selecting inside of it only the input source I always use. That way I can toggle my bluetooth headphones with this workflow and avoid using the built-in mic.

You could have a look at the Audio Switcher workflow, it seems it uses the homebrew package switchaudio-osx, so should be pretty straightforward to implement. (There's also a Alfred Gallery workflow with the same name, but that seems to use a custom Swift script to accomplish the same.)
