Feature request: Add Android home screen widget

I’d love a home screen widget that shows real-time battery level and estimated range without opening the app. It would help users quickly see key stats at a glance.

Good idea! I use the official Tesla app widget but it's actionable by mistake (i.e. open trunk button) and indeed having a read-only one could be interesting.

Planning the implementation for this widget. Here's the approach:

Planned Implementation

Technology: Jetpack Glance (Jetpack's Compose-based widget toolkit)

Widget Features

• Car image as background — dimmed with all info overlaid on top, clearly readable
• Full battery card parity — mirrors everything shown in the dashboard card:
  • Status indicators: state (online/asleep/charging/driving), lock, sentry mode, plug
  • Temperatures: outside and inside (bold/green when climate active)
  • Battery: percentage (color-coded), rated range, charge limit
  • Progress bar: AC/DC color when charging, accent color otherwise
  • Charging details: voltage, current, phases (AC), energy added, time to full
• Static glow effect when charging — Note: widget animations aren't possible in Android, so the glow will be a static glowing halo around the car image (no breathing animation)
• One widget per car — configuration activity lets you pick which car to display when adding the widget
• Tap to open — tapping the widget opens the app

Architecture

• CarWidgetDisplayData — data class listing all battery-card fields, used as contract between battery card and widget
• GlanceAppWidget + GlanceAppWidgetReceiver — Glance-based implementation
• Configuration Activity — car selection when widget is added
• CoroutineWorker (Hilt) — periodic 15-min data refresh

Tests

• CarWidgetDisplayDataTest — verifies all battery card fields are correctly mapped from CarStatus to widget display data. Since CarWidgetDisplayData is a Kotlin data class with a factory method, adding a new field requires updating the mapper (compilation fails otherwise), enforcing parity.
