Thanks @HaleTom for the report - this is confusing, but the picker is behaving as designed.

The first-run agent step is a multi-select list, not a single-select menu. In that mode:

Arrow keys move the highlight (cursor)
Space checks/unchecks the highlighted row
Enter confirms only the checked rows - it does not select whatever is highlighted
On the first run, Claude Code starts pre-checked as the default. In your screenshot:

Claude Code has the filled green checkbox → actually selected
OpenCode is highlighted with an empty checkbox → cursor is there, but it isn’t selected
(MCP server) appears next to the focused row, not necessarily the selected one
So when you arrow to OpenCode and press Enter without pressing Space, the result is still the pre-checked item: Claude Code.

To select OpenCode:

Arrow to OpenCode
Press Space (checkbox should fill)
Optionally, Space on Claude Code to uncheck it
Press Enter

Completed via PR #1035: #1035

Outcome:

• Removed the generic first-run onboarding preselection of Claude Code.
• Preserved confident Copilot CLI auto-detection.
• Added regression coverage for generic initial agent values and OpenCode-only onboarding.

Verification:

• Focused post-merge suite: corepack pnpm exec vitest run --exclude test/integration.test.ts test/onboarding.test.ts test/cli-onboarding.test.ts test/cli-connect.test.ts passed 3 files / 50 tests.
• Full post-merge suite: corepack pnpm test passed 222 files / 3042 tests.
• Post-merge Semgrep default scan passed with 0 findings.
• Staged Gitleaks scans passed with no leaks.
