A modified build of Video DownloadHelper for Firefox with the paid features enabled and the companion-app paywall removed. Videos from YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Instagram, m3u8 streams, and the rest of the supported site list download the same way they do upstream, without the premium gate.
| Feature | Upstream | GetVideo |
|---|---|---|
| Conversion | Requires paid companion app | Unlocked |
| Download limits | Premium features paywalled | All enabled |
| Site support | Full list | Identical to upstream |
| Core engine | aS2/aS3 converter | Unmodified upstream code |
This is a repack: the Video DownloadHelper source itself is untouched except where the premium checks were.
1. Download the extension. Grab GetVideo-firefox.xpi from this repository.
2. Disable signature verification (required for any unsigned extension):
- Open
about:configin Firefox and accept the warning - Search for
xpinstall.signatures.required - Toggle it to
false
3. Install:
- Open
about:addons - Click the gear icon → "Install Add-on From File..."
- Select
GetVideo-firefox.xpi
Alternatively, for a temporary session, go to about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox and click "Load Temporary Add-on...", then select the extension folder.
Once installed the icon lights up on pages with detectable media. Click it to see available downloads and formats.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Firefox refuses to install the .xpi | Signature verification still enabled; re-check about:config |
| Add-on disappears after restart | Temporary installs don't survive restarts; install the .xpi instead |
| Some videos not detected | m3u8/DRM-protected streams may need the companion app logic; try a different quality option |
